ABSTRACT
Este trabalho avalia o conhecimento e práticas dos Agentes Comunitários da Saúde na atenção à saúde do idoso, no Programa de Saúde da Família. Foi realizado um estudo descritivo exploratório, com abordagem quali-quantitativa. Para tal, utilizou-se um questionário com perguntas abertas aos Agentes Comunitários de Saúde das Unidades, do Programa de Saúde da Família (PSF), na cidade do Vale do Paraíba SP, no período de julho a agosto de 2008, aprovado no CEP/Fatea sob registro n° 78/2008. Concluiu-se que os agentes não possuem conhecimento com relação ao idoso e as mudanças físicas apresentadas pelos mesmos. Devido à falta de conhecimento específico do envelhecimento, os agentes tiveram dificuldades em falar acerca dos idosos e suas carências. O agente comunitário de saúde necessita de treinamentos contínuos, adequados e voltados para as realidades locais, que valorizem a organização e o desenvolvimento da comunidade.
This study evaluates the knowledge and practices of community health agents in health care for the elderly, in the Program of Family Health. We carried out an exploratory descriptive study with qualitative and quantitative approach. It was used for the study a questionnaire with open questions to the Community Health Agents Program Units of the Family Health Program (PSF), in the town of Vale do Paraíba - SP, Brazil, from July to August 2008. The research was approved by the CEP / Fatea, under the register of number. 78/2008. It was concluded that the agents have no knowledge about the elderly and the physical changes presented by them. Due to the lack of specific knowledge about aging, the community health agents had difficulties on talking about the elderly and their needs. The community health agent needs continuous, appropriated and focused on local realities trainings, which highlighten the organization and community development.
